You're right, from what the link describes, it's not fully textured and lit, "But yes, it was a simple planar projection..." Event though it seems like significant work was done in 3D, I'm betting if you rotated the camera the opposite side of the set would be un-colored. It would be cooler if it was a full 3D scene…
