For convection you might look at a Breville countertop oven. That thing practically thinks for itself. My technophobe wife wanted it, because her best friend raved about hers. Baking soda is a universal antifungal agent. Leaving it in the carpet forever is the the worst thing that can happen.  Trap odors?  Pretty sure baking soda cannot trap odors.
