"Nexus users will need a file explorer to locate the app once its on the phone but that's about it."

Magic huh? Okay. :-)

Based on what? Yes, it performs well, but what makes it so attractive?

As for the (WindowsPhone7evenThoughTheyreC....6) fanboys out there - get real. Android has already flooded the market as the 'alternative' to iOS, with 80 or so hardware vendors; essentially they're now the "Microsoft" of the Mobile platform. There isn't room for two of the same type.

So just because something is "simpler" than another and your grandmother can text with an iPhone, that makes it superior? Why is complexity such an issue in technology? Sometimes with complexity comes advanced features and functionality, and with Android I would have to think that is true.

Okay, so you're calling it 2nd best to iOS based on what exactly? With MS trying to replace 3rd party apps with functionality, it's a walled garden without any flowers in it.

This would be a boon for Google+ wouldn't it? Think about it. You and 9 other friends inside a "hangout" can watch a TV show or movie together.
