Yep.  People talk about how tribalism is a defining part of American politics, but the reality is that there is only one tribe.

Well, yeah.  They define themselves as “America” so anything they do for self interest is “Patriotism”.  They don’t give a fuck about objective reality, as long as they winning the game “America” is winning, even though the game largely involves destroying America.

Even for the people the tribe of conservatism defines out of their culture, it’s still a culture war.  He’s convinced those liberals are the enemy.  When he finds out conservatism is the “real racism” he can’t accept that and has to start getting real creative and make all kinds of excuses.

It’s a good example of how there is only one tribe in American politics.  You’re either with the tribe of “conservatism” or you are any enemy of it, as defined by the tribe.  When people talk about tribalism in politics remember that in reality it’s one-sided.
