@fierywater: I agree, Ubuntu really should push the torrent a little more. Even if just adding a torrent checkbox or something. If nothing else it would save them a lot of bandwidth because geeks would prefer to use that option.

@trin: "Can" can refer to throwing something in the trash "can". So it is suggesting thowing the spam in the trash, basically. As Hector7g mentioned, it is also a play on the fact that spam comes in a can.
@radleyas: Google Maps itself hasn't failed me, but I have a Vibrant which has had some serious GPS problems and cell signal can be shotty on any carrier when going through the middle of America. Sure, it might cache the exact path, but you better hope you don't have to make a detour in the middle of Kansas.
@radleyas: Well, it isn't 100% reliable. It has gotten pretty good, but my phone itself isn't reliable enough to always count on Google Navigation, so a fallback TomTom is nice. They are not expensive these days, so if you travel a lot it is a great idea to keep one in the glove compartment "just in case".
@n00bson: Just go to the market, click the menu button, then downloads. It should be listed as a possible update.
Firefox Portable? I think you mean Mobile. Firefox Portable is the version made to run on a jumpdrive.
Looks cool, they need to include these things with the phone version. If I'm not mistaken it doesn't even have 3D building. Granted, many phones can't handle it, but most new Android and iOS phones can.
@Quiet_Wyatt: Showering every other day doesn't mean greasy hair/skin for a lot of people. I can easily go two days without a show and my hair will still be soft and fluffy and my skin will... uh... not greasy. Some people can't get away with this. That's fine, but don't assume everyone is the same.
@casen: Online backups are essential for a proper backup setup. External harddrives are great, but what happens when your house burns down? Not only do you lose everything you own physically, but all that priceless data stored on your computer and backup drive.
@Joshua L Lewis: Editing of any kind normally requires some serious multi-tasking, something most mobile OSs do poorly. Even the WebOS, possibly the greatest mobile OS for multitasking, has some really limits when it comes to moving data between applications.
@freedomweasel: Although it is not the same, Linux can give you a very similar feel to OSX with minimal setup. If you ever feel like OSX is becoming something you don't like, Linux will be there for you. By the time OSX 1.7 comes out Ubuntu 11.04 will have been released, and will likely be as polished as OSX(guessing…
We have a policy to let the users decide at this office. Generally users choose to leave it on because booting most of the machines takes at least 5 minutes, and some of our crappy software can take up to 30 minutes to come on. It really isn't worth it when you figure the average billing rate of the employees.
@kingcrowing: Well, in this case Jeb was specifically talking about web video. I can't speak for your machine specifically, but it could be about a million things. For me, I see no noticable difference between Windows and Ubuntu for my desktop/netbook/nettop when it comes to video. For you, it may be a driver issue,…
@bigbash: Sorry, I was talking about using the PPA, not a direct download. I don't like installing or using programs that aren't packaged in .debs and can't be updated by apt.
@Jeb_Hoge: You might want to try Google Chrome with HTML5 video if you do a lot of youtube watching. I found it out preformed Flash when it comes to video watching. It wasn't perfect but it was better than dealing with flash. Updating your drivers might also help. My Acer REVO nettop TV computer really choked on flash…
@zjgz: Wine for Linux is both amazing and awesome. It does a great job on many new and old games. Have a look at the appdb at [winehq.org]
@ithrewitontheground: As Krn said, Installing programs on Ubuntu can be easier than any other OS on the market. Especially with the Software Center. Most open source software you might want is in there, and it is as simple as searching and clicking install. Some non-open source software such as flash and Skype are…
@Jeb_Hoge: Sounds like the problem is Flash. Flash is terrible, and more terrible on Linux than Windows and Mac. The 64bit version of Flash isn't as bad, but still sucks. The version of graphics card driver you are using might make a difference too. OMGUbuntu recently had a post about how to get the latest version of…
@fyngyrz: The font aliasing in OpenOffice is the desktop native. So no, it doesn't have a serious case of the jaggies.
I tried this a few days ago and was stopped by the lack of a 64bit version. This may have been fixed in the past few days. LibreOffice will have one major advantage over the latest OpenOffice, it can edit and save docx and xlsx files. Normal OO.o can only open xlsx files, not save them.
