This Concorde is absolutely perfect, but who preserves such a car?”

Maybe don’t segregate music awards by race ?

If you think a region should equal a genre, then yes

That’s actually a debate. Places like Cuba, Puerto Rico and República Domicana are obviously part of LatAm but the former Dutch and English colonies are not always included. For some things it makes sense to count them in; for others it really doesn’t (anything related to language, for example).

Personally, I haven’t been this mad since Ed Sheeran beat Taylor Swift to the ‘Best WASP’ VMA.

No one gives a shit about a video awards show from a channel that never plays music videos.  MTV is honestly pathetic at this point.  Its a not stop rerun show of Ridiculousness and is a shell of what it used to be.  Its just an embarrassment now that puts on these awards shows like they are at all still relevant, and

Alternately, it hinges on the idea that "Latin" is a geographic category that doesn't include Spain.

Next week in Tatiana Tenreyro editorials: “How to Properly Apply the Brown Paper Bag Test to VMA Categories”

Yo-Yo Ma better start giving them shits back!

The VMA’s once again prove that MTV no longer even runs the videos they are honoring anymore and are just years away from complete irrelevancy. Yeah, we have YouTube now but us 80's kids knew when MTV was a BIG DEAL. ( And Martha Quinn was simply adorable. Not that she does not still look pretty darn good 30+ years

Yeah, this article has some pretty gross gatekeeping. If an Afro-Carribean person born and raised in Florida made a reggaeton album, I wonder if Tatiana here would allow then to be considered “Latinx” or if that doesn’t meet her standards.

What I found funny about Old Towne Road was that the week that the “Is it Country?” crowd flipped out, Ganstagrass was at the top of the Bluegrass chart.

Maybe it’s pronounced Anna Taylor-Hoy

Anna Taylor-Joy has almost exactly the same ethnicity as I do, which is to say, a confusing background that requires a whiteboard and some graphing.

As someone of Portuguese descent, where’s my damn Latin award?

Another classic Tatiana “Please Love Me, Twitter” Hot Take. 🙄

What a spectacularly bad take. While I agree “Latin” is a bad category, complaining about it being awarded to non-latinos is ridiculous. Can Eminem not win a rap award? Lil-Nasx or Darius Rucker no country award?

This article really hinges on the idea that Latin music (and urban music, for that matter) is an ethnically-exclusive category, which is positively vile and a concept lots of artists chafe against in their desire for artistic validation.

So is the idea here that “Latin music” is less of a music genre than it is simply a designation for music performed by people descended from Latin American countries? That seems odd.

If Latin is a catch-all for styles including reggaeton and trap, and Rosalía makes music which is or is inspired by reggaeton and trap, where else should she be nominated? Should only people with “sufficiently” Latin ancestry be allowed in the category?
