Manual CVT’s exist! I’ve used it. Large riding mowers often use a hydrostatic CVT to control vehicle speed. The throttle is a lever and the CVT control is a pair of pedals where the gas pedal would otherwise be. One pedal for forward the other for backward. Forklifts also have a similar system.
