Rather than put the velcro under the camera, I put it on the neck strap. That way I can hold the camera firmly with both hands, set the camera down on a flat surface, use a tripod, keep lens leash slack pulled tight and out of the way.

I had the same experience with OpenOffice. Using it (instead of M$ Office) would have saved us approx $1,000 total on our 7 new workgroup computers, but, like Google Docs, it just wasn't fully compatible with the rest of the world.
