In New Zealand the Tesla Model 3 undercuts this by $7k and has twice the range!

What an utterly insane idea. Pretty much if you are one of those people who refuse to wear a seatbelt, despite the consistent light blinking and sound bonging then that’s on you. These are the people who buy the seat belt buckles to clip in to stop the noise while still not wearing a seat belt. This changes nothing

My dad has a ‘98 318ti automatic and its no slower than my 2016 Subaru Outback and a damn sight faster than his Toyota Hilux... maybe the one you drove was broken?

My 1998 Volvo S80 had a child seat that deployed from behind the centre arm rest. I really wish new cars had that. It would be really handy when a friend needs to come along, I wouldn’t need to wrestle a car seat from the other car!

Opening windows/sunroof from the key fob. My 2002 Ford Mondeo, 2005 Holden Astra, 2009 BMW 135i and 2015 VW Polo could all do this from their key fobs, it was great, especially the Astra as it was a black car and you could just vent the car from the remote. But none of my Japanese cars, nor our 2015 Ford Kuga will do

At the top end Toyobaru B8R6Z at the bottom end the final gen Celica or Integra. Reliable, fun looking and semi-wedgy. Unfortunately due to laws or something car makers aren’t allowed to make cars that slice pedestrians in half anymore

This is the same thing as putting a dummy belt clip into the seat belt buckle to turn off the seat belt warning chime. Just with far dire consequences, humans will do anything to skirt the systems designed to protect us.

Change the F to an H and you’ll be on the money - cos diesel

Its the Toyota 1HZ. Found in everything from LandCruisers to Coaster buses. Sure it makes no power, sure it isn’t exactly fuel efficient, sure they won’t let you buy one in a country with emissions regulations these days. But, it has been around since the early 1990's, it lasts for millions of miles, its reliable, its

I have now decided that my son and daughter can have whatever they want in $x budget (whatever inflation is). Because I love cars and my dad (who incidentally likes cars, not like I do, but still has had some coolish cars) never let me follow my fantasy “you should buy something thats reliable and runs on the smell of

You are going to kick yourself. But you missed just ‘Tiguan’

I have a 5 year old Outback, we’ve had it since new. Its boring sure. But it is an absolutely brilliant family car. Its comfortable, its spacious and yet no larger than a previous gen Hyundai Santa Fe, its well equipped, EyeSight makes it semi-autonomous in traffic. Its just a good car. Its slow sure, but a good car

Wouldn’t a bloody long ethernet cord to your shed work just as well. Ethernet cable from where your internet terminates in your house. long piece of PVC pipe, run the cable through to your modem now safely in your shed and huzzah internets! The upside of this would be that you will forever have an ethernet cable in

For 90% of the time an EV would be perfect for me. But the 10% is also really really important. You have to look at vehicle ownership holistically - right now I can’t have an EV for daily commuting and an ICE car for when I need it, unfortunately I can’t really afford that/really don’t want a Nissan Leaf. The story

That dealer is totally right. Electric cars are less convenient than an ICE car. They just are. I am low on petrol - in under 5 minutes I can cover another 800km. With electric, it takes 30 minutes and I can cover 300km. So yeah - people aren’t going to switch. Which is why Toyota is dragging their feet on EV’s.

Ummm a Mitsubishi Delica - first gen was sold as a 2wd van in the USA. The 4x4 model shares underpinnings with the Pajero(Montero) of which both first and second gen models were sold in the USA. They have turbo diesel engines, which keep up with traffic better than say a 1988 Cadillac Fleetwood. Your argument is

I’ve always wanted a Toyota Land Cruiser, but a used one is still prohibitively expensive and I can’t quite reconcile paying more than twice what our 5 year old Ford Kuga is worth for a 20 year old 100 series with 300,000km.

Haha! I feel you! My wife likes cars, but doesn’t love them. Doesn’t want another manual and doesn’t understand why I want an off road capable 4x4. *sigh*

Mini and Land Rover cos you can still get a green car. If Toyota would sell the Prado or Fortuner in green I would probably put down a deposit... for now I’ll wait until the market calms down and pick up a used one in 3 years in any colour, cos nothing else says “buy me!” I want a green truck dammit!

Is it ok to like this? The first gen was rubbish. But I kinda like the size and shape of this car, its also really good value, even in the mildly ridiculous Trailhawk guise. Its sort of the perfect size for my wife - and obviously Trailhawk is the one we’d get cos it looks fun, if not ridiculous.
