I suspect he might be talking about how the rollover screwed up his plan for doing backdoor Roth conversions. Now he can no longer put after-tax money into a traditional IRA and then convert it to a Roth without paying additional tax. Instead the pro-rata rule would apply.

Does your current 401(k) (or other qualified employer plan) allow incoming rollovers from IRAs? If so, you can move that money out your IRAs to clear the way for cleaner conversions.

I was going to say the exact same thing. All the references to IRAs had to do with contributing to them, not to whether or not you should roll over to an IRA. And there can be positives and negatives.

What I’m concerned about is that they will try to use this to Trump’s advantage. Most legal experts say a president can’t pardon himself for crimes he committed.
