I think, and this is just from experience, that North Americans generally are out of touch with and often disgusted by their bodies and kind of lump everything together. Breast milk is a “perfect food” for infants; it’s meant to be ingested. How could it be “gross”? q.v. outrage over breast-feeding in public.
