When I was first learning to drive stick, around 4-5 years after learning to drive a car with an automatic transmission, I could tell that the other areas of my driving was suffering. For example, I'd be so focused on making sure I was getting into the correct gear for a turn that I'd forget to signal. Stuff like

Fair enough, it's tough to quantify other measures of tire performance, since it varies so greatly based on conditions and the car's suspension setup.

As the article said, durability isn't the only factor in tire selection. You've also gotta consider traction under various conditions, the amount of road noise from the tires, etc. I don't know what the tires were that you were looking at, but I'd bet that there's a substantial difference somewhere other than
