I agree. This episode feels like the climax of Ragnar's story, and what comes next may just be the denouement, like Walter White and "Ozymandias".
Ecbert's bit about the necessity of religion is straight out of Immanuel Kant. Totally fits with the "college sophomores debating Philosophy 101" vibe. His prayer at the end was quoting from the biblical book of Ecclesiastes, which is a search for existential meaning written by Solomon, the greatest king of his day.…
