Rohnert Park is one of the best hardcore records of the past 10 years. No question.

Good catch. Just fixed this.

Such an amazing guitarist and songwriter.

Get Disowned was my favorite album of 2012 and Painted Shut is already in contention for my favorite this year. Hop Along > (almost) everything else.

Good catch. Will fix that now.

All Converge, all the time, regardless of mental state.

It's fascinating how applicable that song has become in the past month and I didn't even realize it until just now. I think today is going to be a "Dingo Fence" day.

I have a friend who often says, "If you can sing well then I don't believe you." I wouldn't say I go that far, but there's something to be said for abandoning all pretense and just going for it.

I think his vocals on this release (as well as on "Russian History") are great. It sounds like he's an inch away from your face, and that intimacy makes every song feel like a stare down.

I spent the first third of this year with "Dingo Fence" on repeat. That song takes me places.

"'97" is absolutely perfect.

Those songs where Matt and Dan sing together (such as "Jaked On Green Beers") are the best things in their catalog.

It's crazy good. So much great food in that city.

Arrow's Aim is bad news for me. I got so much crazy stuff this year for next to nothing. I think that Hot Cross record was $10? Got a stack of original press 7-inches from the likes of Superchunk, Seam, Spazz, Septic Death, etc. all for about $3-$5. And those Jawbreaker/HWM records in the photo are original presses on

The journey has its perks: You get to eat at Flaco's, Boca Fiesta, the hot dog cart, and then record shop at Arrow's Aim.

20-ish? It's hard to cover a lot of ground with a sandwich this tall and dense. Then there's all the chewing, which just gets tiresome.

It's not the weight that gets you, it's the dryness of the meat congealing into one big block of salt.

We are richer for having lost him.

They layered acoustics in the background, the way the chorus devolves into a kind of broken storyteller thing. It's the least '90s thing they've done, at least to my ear.
