Yes. It wasn't a fun thing to do, but it definitely got the point across. Electric bill was $300 due to every light in the house being left on, and telling them to please turn the lights off when done in a room kept getting ignored until I did this. When asked why i simply said "I've been politely asking you to be

Yes, a car will last longer than a mobile device, no argument there. However we're comparing the one time cost. not the timed cost. Up front cost on a phone (unlocked/off contract) at $600-$700 - up front cost of a brand new car, sans taxes and other fees $25,000-$30,000. Then yes, as time goes on the cost for mobile

Gearheads will never love the Prius. It wouldn't matter if you made it RWD with the Corvette LS engine and a 6 speed manual gearbox. Gearheads are the 'traditonal' type whose beliefs lie in the very narrow minded niches of the automobile. Take a gear head out of that niche comfort zone and they will instantly hate

Right because a single phone or tablet purchase is equal to a single purchase of a brand new $25,000-$30,000 car.. Great work of logic there.

I agree. instead of counting for a threat just set a timer and then take the item away until they are ready to be responsible. Works extremely well. Though I put it where they can't even see it (like the garage) I did the same thing except with the light bulbs because the lights kept getting left on all the time

Very good points

I'm guessing you live in the minority that use an SUV/Van for what it's meant for rather than seeing people use it as a status symbol or merely because they believe they are safer in a bigger car and don't actually need it. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp unless you've never seen it. where I live over half of

You misunderstood: you never hear a motorcycle stereo THUMPING with bass the way cars/trucks do that most commonly run 8+ inch sized woofers that rattle windows.. I've yet to encounter a bike that did so via radio. Exhaust pipes are a different story.

I could also use that same argument against you for claims to proof. at this point your 'proof" is as anecdotal as you consider mine to be.

Even if I had that kind of cash floating around ready to be burned, I'd rather wait until the prices return to reasonable rather than encourage a dealership (of any car) to price gouge merely because the model they have in stock is popular and brand new to the market.

but that some is about 1%-2%.. the other 98%-99% just use it to haul themselves (i.e. only a driver and zero passengers or gear of any kind) around town. WIll big vehicles always have a niche that they fill? Yes.

Exactly my viewpoint on the EV1. Ahead of it's time but hobbled by GM and killed by Big Oil's hold on the auto manufacturers. Even with EVs and Hybrids today, they are not as good as they should be due to not being given the support they deserve from the manufacturer.

The only way I'd consider doing so was if I was in a highly regulated state where almost nobody had guns and I was carrying illegally. That's the only way I could be reasonably assured that the bad guys didn't have guns too.

ok. just admitted my foobar. no need to be a jerk about it.

It was badged only as a GM (my mistake). Though it was meant to be a halo car for the entire brand of GM

It was still manufactured on Saturn's assembly lines by Saturn factory workers and engineers. Granted it wasn't really badged as one, but that's GM failings as they never gave a damn about the car to actually let a division actually run with it (amongst other failings for handling the EV1).

still very modern/futuristic looking today imo.

now if only auto companies would apply that.

A halo car for a badge that didn't exist

Preface: yes I know this is an old post.
