I was a copy editor in the newsroom of a daily newspaper around the turn of the century. The images coming across the AP wire of middle east violence still affect me to this day. I can’t watch horror movies like Saw, Purge, or Hostel franchises. I’ve already seen the real horrors people will do to other humans.

I’m floored that the Hackintosh I built in 2012 still works spectacularly well and runs the latest OS. I followed TonyMac’s guide for parts and install to build a Core i3 shoebox configuration for just over $500. I think the only thing I’ve upgraded is swapping the HDD for an SSD. My kids use it daily for homework,

I expect anyone suggesting incarcerated felons have a right to vote start holding town hall meetings in cell block G.

I feel like this needs to be here.

I live about an hour out of Las Vegas, but still in Clark County. People drive from Vegas to our rural DMV because adding 2.5 hours round-trip drive takes less time than going to any of the urban DMV centers. It’s gotten so bad, locals get priority over the out-of-towners in the line.

I will be at DL for four days starting tomorrow with two toddlers and 4 teenagers. I much prefer the toddlers! ;)

I follow the guideline of tips for people who bring food to you. In other words, no tip if you shout my name at a counter, and I come to you unless there are some unusual circumstances where counter service person goes above and beyond.

I’m seeing the same trend in my job search. I was passed over for promotion. I graduated with a 4.0, but every job I’ve applied for wants to see at least 2 years in directly related entry level

Until you wake up with your kid holding a large mallet over your head ...

I’m pretty sure what this survey calls a sitter is really a private nanny with services catering to one percenters. At 30k/year, I’d expect a college student working towards an early childhood education degree who is practically raising my kid for me.

Take a grueling vacation. Two years ago, I volunteered to participate in a week-long 50 mile backpack trip with my son. By Saturday morning, my fitbit had recorded 90 miles due to a few route modifications.

The mustache. Was it the mustache? For me it was the mustache.

There is more that unites us than divides us. We can all appreciate free food.

I manage and reply to reviews for my small company mainly because no one in management actually cares. One thing to consider with online feedback is how someone who gave you a poor review perceives other businesses. We received a 1-star review earlier this week. When I checked his other feedback, I found he gave

Had a few roommates that were general dipshits and not very bright living in off campus student housing. Our apartment was literally right on top of the complex manager’s unit.

If I’m reading your reply to book club babe correctly, then you just don’t want to be solicited by businesses at all. That’s a really shortsighted view. Businesses advertise to introduce you to new and better products. The idea behind tracking emails is then relevant marketing is directed to you. Real spam is when

Morningstar’s growth of $10,000 charts and figures are probably the most useful visual tools for novice investors. They simply display how an individual security performed over time compared to relevant market benchmarks.
