Smith and Mapplethorpe were very good friends. Her book “Just Kids” is about their relationship and it’s really good!

Robert Mapplethorpe, but yeah, a relatively famous photo.

I rather liked the Patti Smith bumper. It was probably photoshopped but I wonder if there’s some outtakes of Mulaney dressed as Smith.

Scott Pilgrim is an amazing movie for a number of reasons. If the Academy had a category for casting, who ever casted Scott Pilgrim would have won in a landslide. The got-them-before-they-blew-up young talent in the movie is insane.

This just goes to show they need to let Bob Odenkirk host ASAP.

With the demise of Louis CK (well, he’s not actually dead; he has just entered a kind of living death), John Mulaney has emerged as America’s top comedian.

I was wary of John Mulaney hosting SNL again so quickly, and with the writing struggles being so blatantly on display this season, but I am very happy that I was wrong. This episode was my best reminder in many years of what I love about SNL and why I keep some form of investment in the show even after all this time

It is a perfectly cromulent film.

We should not forget his role as Blank Reg, from “Max Headroom”.

Blank Reg! I gotta watch Max Headroom again sometime soon.

Also Anomaly: Warzone Earth, their first game series before they made This War of Mine, is quite excellent. A hallmark of the studio is their superb production value, the games always look lavish and expensive even if they’re on a small budget. Props to their art directors.

Whenever Cloverfield is offscreen, all the characters should ask “Where’s Cloverfield?”

there is an expression you often see on T-shirts and bumpers stickers that goes more or less like this: “Jesus Said It. I Believe It. That Settles It.”

It already happened, it was called the 90's.

He’s basically a poor man’s Mary Gross.

I disagree somewhat, in that I used to watch A LOT of SNL reruns when they comprised the bulk of Comedy Central’s daytime schedule. Some seasons and casts are definitely stronger than others. The cast and writing team from about ’87-’91 were probably the strongest ever, IMO. Most shows from that era feature an

NBC didn’t “send him packing.” The story goes that after five years he was exhausted and knew he was going to lose most of what was left of the original cast, and thus wanted an extended hiatus to retool and overhaul. NBC, which was in dire straits ratings wise at that time, weren’t prepared to jettison him at all -

Okay people, it’s time for a little refresher on password creation...
