What you did there. I see it.
What you did there. I see it.
Everyone was doing AWD back then... remember the AWD Ford Tempo?
Serious one: You all know I won't shut up about my daily driver being a cool, rareish older car. I've always felt a little guilty about driving it, though... driving it daily increases the chances of it being destroyed by some numpty out on the road. Am I being an irresponsible steward of a car which has just a couple…
Buy it, put it on a plinth, sell it for $58,000 in a gallery of contemporary art.
They already had a P1900. We try not to talk about it.
Hulllooooo, waiting for my latest photo op, Volvo.
Umm... in the shot from the passenger's side of the rear seat, is that the steering wheel headed back between the driver and passenger?!!
I had a neighbor ask me to look at his beloved Rainbow vacuum cleaner. The burning smell was horrific, the sight of the motor even more so. I asked what he'd done, and he admitted he'd tried to "oil the bearings." With Wesson.
My dad was a Chevy dealer when those came out; he had a demo we got to ride around in. Was like a greenhouse. The wheels got stolen off of it in my grandmother's driveway. Aaaah, good times.
I have a magazine around here somewhere that featured the prototype in detail. Got it in the '80s when I was a kid, and constantly re-read the article with all the concept shots. LOVED it. Then it came out and was a dustbuster, and I immediately moved along.

My R/C lust for this week is the bus from the Italian Job.
Mine was a 1980 Mercury Capri RS. My pediatrician bought it new for his (then) wife. She handed it down to her daughter, who murdered the motor. I bought it for $200 when I was 15, and rebuilt the motor. It lasted me through the rest of high school, and the first two years of college. I left school after sophomore…
I drove down the road behind a Z4 coupe earlier today. NNNOOOOOPPPPE. I will, however, take an M Coupe in a heartbeat.
I'd add that a lot of older transmissions don't have synchronized first gears. Like my truck. I'll engine brake through second if it's called for, but then it's both feet in, tranny into neutral, then wait for green before shifting. Not standing on the clutch through a red light also helps reduce wear on the pressure…
BUT I HAVE THE T-SHIRT!
I may have just kinda sorta bought the shell of a '64 Bug a little bit today. It's going to become a Baja Bug. Possibly with an '88 Mazda Wankel. Your name was dropped as I attempted to attribute blame for my insanity. You may be hearing from my divorce attorney as an expert witness.
Isn't there a tank of, um, highly volatile liquid fuel somewhere in that general area?
I know and like them all, 7 are on my dream list, including 5 on my "will have" (no illusions of owning a Miura or 2000GT), and 1 of those is a car I've wanted since the 2nd grade (MG TC, ever since I read a very old book I found hiding in my school's library). I was an odd child.
