Did Joe pushing Unix seem believable to you, based on his background? He was at IBM well before they released AIX and, of course, Cardiff working on the Giant. Unix is a good choice, but I have a hard time believing in 1985, Joe's character would know to push for it (assuming he'd even heard of it).
