Unlawful killing is a term that encompasses murder and also manslaughter, negligent homicide, and other killings that are not lawful but are not necessarily termed ‘murder’ in the applicable jurisdiction.

Antisemitic conspiracy theories are bound to go down well here...

“ the officer run after him and shoot him? That was straight-up FIRST DEGREE MURDER”

Jeez, just ask a lawyer before writing nonsense like this. Police in the US are basically allowed to shoot people. That’s what your laws say. If you (rightly) have a problem with that, then change the damn laws.

Dunno, it’s the kind of thing prosecutors tend to do once they get started.

Nice. I particularly enjoyed the irony of a self-professed Marxist complaining about racism.

I haven’t seen the comment you’re talking about. Pedantry, though:

I honestly have a problem about the whole ‘mixed-race’ thing - or rather, not being allowed to say it’s better. Because there’s good reason to think that in fact mixing genes from different historical gene pools leads to kids with objectively better genes.

Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world where that comparison doesn’t have racist connotations and is just a thing one says about kids sometimes? Clearly the perp lives in that world, regardless of reality.

Who hasn’t heard of Chopra? Who has heard of Nick whatsit? And really, who gives a fuck who’s marrying whom?

I don’t think that’s necessarily true at all. Sex fantasies/role-play can involve ideas that do not have any place in the real world. For example there are people who like to be dominated by ‘Nazis’ because that’s an archetype of evil dominance. Hell, lots of people have fantasies that are literally impossible in

Cultural appropriation by anyone who’s not British is in fact cultural appropriation. Particularly in a culinary context.

The Elgin Marbles wouldn’t exist now if Lord Elgin hadn’t bought them - which he did in order to preserve them. It’s really rather a different kettle of fish to the Benin Bronzes, which were seized to penalise Benin for not doing what the Empire wanted.

I was thinking that - possession being 9/10 of the law and all that.

Not to support the idiot politicians, but I think there he was trying to say that she had got to know the murdered woman. The rest of it is about a ‘political tragedy’, which is so laughable I don’t have words.

Doesn’t the US have that thing about prior reporting of the details of a case making it impossible for the perp to get a fair trial?

“just that she had the subjective intent to kill him at the time of the act”

It’s quite possible her door lock record shows she entered her own apartment first. In which case she’s sunk. But then I’d imagine she’d be pleading guilty.

It’s much simpler from the legal point of view. The British Museum is a charitable trust, and the trustees can’t hand things over permanently without going through lengthy processes to establish that’s the right thing to do. Whereas they can send them (anywhere) on loan easily, and work out ownership in the future.
