I’d say it’s more efficient than lazy. This is a vehicle that should be bought for function and cost over form.

You’re looking at the cost figure completely wrong. Even $1 is big cost. That hypothetical $100 is per vehicle. Over a 5-10 year model life, 50-100K units per year, that’s a $50M window. Cars are designed on strict budgets.
