I’d say it’s more efficient than lazy. This is a vehicle that should be bought for function and cost over form.

It’s a purpose built platform. Mostly shared with the Prius.

Interior quality always increases as size does in model lineups, across basically every manufacturer.

I agree with almost everything you said... except that it has as much space as a Pilot.  The interior of the Outback is pretty narrow.

They skipped the 2014 update that the Tundra got, unfortunately.

I thought the same thing, however an experience I had today in my 2016 model front wheel drive sedan made me realize it was not true.

Honestly, I’d wager that they did it to attract attention.  Camo’d cars attract cameras like nothing else, and they almost always end up online.

If, for some reason, the taxi you got was a Century, that could be the reason.  Maybe it was a miscommunication and someone ordered you a private limo.

You’re looking at the cost figure completely wrong. Even $1 is big cost. That hypothetical $100 is per vehicle. Over a 5-10 year model life, 50-100K units per year, that’s a $50M window. Cars are designed on strict budgets.
