I think a Ferrari or Lamborghini hat or shirt is fine. Exotic car apparel like that is like sports team apparel. No one expects you to to actually own it. Where it’s different is if you wear something from a more attainable luxury brand, like BMW or Mercedes. Then people might think you actually have one.

Modern safety and emissions equipment are not optional, and neither is fuel economy realistically, and the components related to those are the main things keeping people from working on them.
Elon has maintained that the purpose of Tesla was to push EVs when major automakers wouldn’t. He even reiterated this with his tweets a week or two ago about GM crushing EVs back in the early 2000's.
