I think the problem I have with the “it wasn’t earned” claim is the implicit assertion that because it wasn’t earned (which is true), it shouldn’t have been there (which is not).

In that case, I think you’ll love it. I think it does a great job of furthering the story and developing the characters in very meaningful ways.
