“Remember how awesome old school io9 was?"
Yeah, it’s insane. Been coming to io9 since what, 2008? For as long as I can remember. But this is crazy. If the overlords want to kill this website, just shut it down already then. Why drag is mangled corpse through the mud like this?
To be blunt: this site is becoming impossible to use. Huge ads, auto play video that stays locked on top, making text hard to read... I suppose the writers don’t like it either, because surely you didn’t sign up to be writers for a promo rag, so please, please try to do something about it. Screenshot from Chrome on…
That's what I thought as well. Plus a guide on how to deal with those insufferable people that are on their phone the whole time, even when the best scene is playing that you really wanted them to see.
Glad I’m not the only one who thought that picture was comically absurd.
Yeah that sounds really, really stupid. If you're going to make a movie about Atlantis, make it about, well, Atlantis.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen *this* much ads in a single article in the decade I've been coming here. There’s a giant one filling up whole (phone) screen literally every other paragraph. It’s very distracting. It’s an entertaining read though! (The article, not the mega ads)
Came here for this. I love my Saab 9-5NG, it's amazing.
Same, their way looks and sounds totally wrong, and I’m pretty sure if Yoda said it today he’d say it our way, but yeah, Mandela Effect at work here for sure.
Yep I thought the same thing.
To be honest I don’t know, so I can’t speak for them, but one might assume that since English is the closest thing to a global language, it would be their primary concern. I remember the people in Prague (for example city guide and hotel staff) complaining that the whole “Czechia” rebranding was a misguided attempt by…
The Czech people I work with plus all the people I met in Prague all hate the new Czechia name. They don’t want their country to be confused with “that hellhole” Chechnya (paraphrasing of course), and they all wanted their country to be known as the Czech Republic.
And to think io9 used to be amazing.
That’s a valid point, but the fact is that TLJ was a hugely divisive movie, not a universally beloved one - not even close. Obviously this had an impact on the box office of RoS.
Pretending a movie is universally beloved when it’s not is weird.
“So you’re claiming that the majority of voices that have thrown nothing but toxicity at TLJ, including racist attacks, are not being credited enough and haven’t had a fair chance to voice themselves in countless rambling articles? Now that is Fox News 101.”
Is that true, or are you just joking? If it's true, this is the first I've heard of it.
If nothing else, pretending something is universally loved or hated leads to readers and viewers existing in a bubble. See also: Fox News. I think any issue needs to be examined objectively, without an agenda. That’s journalism 101.
Not to be too blunt or anything, but without even one example that holds about as much weight as me saying “anytime I saw somebody say they liked TLJ, it became clear to me that they fundamentally misunderstood the plot and themes of the Star Wars movies.”
