“and Johnson? Like you will literally hate a person because they made an artistic decision you disagree with? If your love of Star Wars is that personal you need to back away. It’s not okay to actually hate another human because they did an art you didn’t like.”

“Blah blah blah, it’s a fucking movie. When “hate” comes into it, you’re taking it too seriously. Gain some perspective and perhaps civil discourse will be possible.”

“Instead of posting defensively, keep your powder dry on articles like this, and try to post thoughtful, calm critiques whenever the situation calls for it. Otherwise, all you’re doing is reinforcing the others sides view that all people who critique the movie are associated with each other, either because they share

“I absolutely detest the last Jedi and it has zero to do with gender and race and i’m not the only one, but of course its very easy to ignore us and just accuse us of being the same as those morons.”

Such a breathtakingly beautiful car. But it’s even more expensive than I thought: $87,000. If I had the money lying around, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

There is one available actually. But it’s like $80,000.

What’s it like?! A 9-7x aero is one of my all time dream cars!!

“District 9 was superb, and everyone’s been waiting for that lightning to strike twice.

Is she a practising muslim? I genuinely don’t know and am interested. Or is she just “culturally” muslim?

Thanks, I hadn’t heard about that. Good to know Coogler has a long term plan.

“I think you’re still missing the point: you don’t have to have a Western style political structure, you don’t have to give up traditional clothing, to be a culture that others would envy.”

“I don’t see how you can still be using the phrase “generic African country” after reading DeKnada’s reply to you.

“Wakanda back in the 60’s, when “darkest africa” tropes were still popular. The second is that much of what we think of as “modern” and therefore “futuristic” is heavily influenced by European esthetics. A nation largely untouched by European colonisation would have significant differences.”

Wow, I enjoyed reading this! I particularly liked the comparison to DS9, that’s a good point.

“This comment is so western it makes me cringe”

Thanks for your considerate reply, much appreciated!

I’m still struggling to understand a lot of creative decisions they made about Wakanda and its customs. They could have turned it into a hypertechnological utopia, decades past what modern industrialized countries are like, with rich, wise citizens and a healthy (form of) democracy.
