Well if you are fine with buying all the equipment that is in total around $1300 just for the radio and you need a dedicated computer to handle it all then just Google around for OpenBTS. If you just get sucky signal from your cell phone company bug them for a femtocell

Not entirely... What do you think those femtocells are doing? If a court case is being brought against you for doing so and they have no evidence of you intentionally attempting to broadcast outside of your own residence I doubt a judge would convict you.

<troll>I don't see what the problem is</troll>

1 > 0 < 1 tada!

Well I suppose, but that video of the computer reconstructing what is in your head posted yesterday does kind of even make that not very secure (or at least it will eventually get to that point)

There is absolutely nothing stopping you from using OpenBTS and an Ettus radio. Just like there is nothing stopping you from using a computer or own a gun/set of knives. Just because you have it and it is capable of doing something illegal doesn't make the item itself illegal. There are many perfectly valid reasons to

Should they? Probably not. Can they with incredible ease? Of course, I mostly was commenting on how much I am shocked that people seem to think it is something difficult or impossibly expensive. It doesn't even need to be the government doing it with how cheap it is to do.

And...? I can do this with OpenBTS, Asterisk, an E100 (or a USRP1 if you are feeling cheap) and a laptop all for around $1,700. I bet it's cheaper than the government doing it too.

I do find it highly ironic that after all these years uTorrent is releasing a "pro" version, it will be the next "most torrented software" ever. And people will end up doing it with the free uTorrent, oh the irony...

Up to 15 cents now, I'm somewhat interested in buying some shares now...

Well I have 15gb from dropbox just from referrals (unless you are an insanely anti-social person it's easy to get a crapload of storage for free from dropbox) and all of the free storage they've given away. So to me dropbox is better then just about any other free service in terms of storage space.

Eh I have a vague idea how a CPU does all of that (at least x86, other architectures I really do know nothing about), I've never done assembly code directly (and spend most of my programming time in higher up managed languages). I still think it's rather neat to let the CPU figure out when its needed which would

This is so amazingly awesome. Yet another sci-fi technology coming to life!

Pretty damn PHP has had that since it's invention... Unless they mean it is part of the CPU architecture itself in which case that's pretty cool...

Fusion, not fission. (Atomic bomb is Fission, not Fusion)

+1 to that (well years ago 3G modems were unlimited use but was much more expensive and slower), the unlimited was only for use on phone itself.

Actually no, people originally used electric cars on lead acid batteries (they've existed forever) because they didn't want explosive liquid everywhere around a city. Then standard oil smashed it and we are where we are today.

That kind of reminds me of one of Louis CK's standups where he is pissed about how faggot means a gay person now. He went on to talk about how faggot used to just be a person "being a faggot" as in doing something annoying or stupid.

To be honest, as harsh as it seems, this is a good thing. Why? If people start not caring about insults/slurs like that wars/fights/etc won't be started because of them. If people stop being so damn uptight about every little tiny thing that could even so much as insult a single cell in your body the world will be a
