you mean details? it was originally andrew kreisberg’s plan but when he was justifiably fired the show decided to turn away from his ideas and that was one of his ideas

“Alex’s monologue about Eliza’s parenting skills was very sweet, but seemed to simplify their fraught mother/daughter relationship a bit too much” i think what made their relationship so fraught was the pressure on alex to keep kara’s secret. without that burden we get the view of eliza that alex gives us tonight

if kara could do that the show would have shown her doing it in an earlier episode

You're absolutely right. Seeds were planted in the episode. The issue is that there was nothing foreshadowed before the menagerie episode. Before the menagerie episode the show made it seem like Lena was working on her own with eve. Not one single sign of Lena bringing someone else in
