There was a problem on Jezebel a few years back where MRA trolls were posting a bunch of really horrible pictures. The grays allowed people to better filter out some of that stuff. It ended up filtering out just about everyone.

I just started The Fifth Season and so far the book balances world-building with very personal characterization. I’m really impressed.

You aren’t kidding about Mount Greenwood. I work at a college with a large POC population in that neighborhood and our students get the cops called on them somewhat regularly when walking to some of the auxillary buildings off of the main campus. It’s pretty sickening.

I hadn’t seen the body of text before, but damn, when I was at Marist, people were throwing around that same “there’s a difference between black people and...” bullshit. Sad to see that old chestnut hasn’t died in 15 years.

It’s run by the same group of brothers (brothers meaning not priests, but close). I believe there’s a Marist High School in Georgia too. And Marist College in New York is also affiliated.

Given the number of cops’ kids that go to that school, out of the blue is probably exactly where those slurs came from.
