They have actually been pulling a lot from the EU. There have been a lot of hints that a lot of the KotR-type stuff is still canon. There have been references to a lot of EU characters, it was just a matter of cleaning up the mess before fixing everything.

So far it was one encounter and a very short encounter where Luke didn’t get the upper hand once.

Scrubbing the EU had to be done to make Episode 7. There is no way they could cross reference all the garbage out there to make a movie that was even remotely coherent.

So far they have only run into each other once and it was a very short meeting. Basically, it just shows how terrible Luke’s skills are this early in. It also serves as the spark for Vader to realize he is more than just a random Rebel.

I haven’t read Vader Down yet, but the main storyline Luke has only run into Vader once and it was a very short confrontation if you can even call it that.

But.. they didn’t really spar... and it shows how far Luke comes later because of how terribly he did against Vader. Somebody sounds salty.

It actually fits in really well. The best I can say without talking your ear off (typing your eyes out?) is to give the comics a try. The Star Wars and Darth Vader comics specifically.
