Going into the Olympics, Jordyn got more spotlight because she was the overwhelming favorite to win. Gabby was covered because she came out of nowhere—underdog story.

I really am not getting an equal credit thing from any stories—her mom is her mom, and is the woman who raised/s her. Parton cares for her when she's in Iowa.

Me too! But I don't think she's shy—by her own admission, she is not the best at concentration. This is a quote for her NY Times profile: “It’s very tough for me to focus,” she said. “I’m like: ‘Look, something shiny! No, focus. Oh, there goes a butterfly!’ ”

This isn't really true—Gabby was a media focus from the start. In fact, she and Jordan (the two favorites going in) were the subjects of NBC's very first athlete interview with Bob Costas on the night of the opening ceremony.

Why such cynicism? Mom 2 (dubbed as such by Gabby's mom as the article and video above makes totally clear) is a volunteer host. I don't think anyone is implying that the host family is the real reason for Gabby's success—if anything, they are illustrating the point that elite athletes wouldn't be where they are

Mom 1 is the one who called Parton "Mom 2." Sometimes I feel like people can't read...the article is mere inches above where we're typing these comments in!

I agree—they were always herding Gabby back in to the group!

I have been noticing that the hairstyles seem to be shared across the women on the US team—this year it's ponytails (regular and looped). On the 1996 team you had some short styles (Kerri Strug). And in 2008, the girls wore ponytails, but with the front of the hair twisted away from the face and clipped for a little

As for planes and restaurants—that's not a good comparison. People talk to each other while on planes and in restaurants. They get up and move around.

I was more disturbed by the idea of what she might do to the baby...I have flashes of Munchausen's by proxy and Amy doing things to the poor baby in order to keep all attention on herself. I found myself hoping that she would die—possibly from a Nick created "accident"—once the baby was born (and that he would get

I bought that she killed him—means to an ends and all that. But what I want to know is, if Amy said Desi kidnapped her, didn't the police follow up to see where he'd been for those first few weeks of the disappearance? He lived with his mom—wouldn't mommy have provided an alibi? That was the part where it really
