TNT had a weird Western version of King Lear called King of Texas starring Patrick Stewart. Along with Ran, I guess it suggests filmmakers think the story is better as material for a reimagining of the concept and not a straight-up adaptation.
Interesting sidenote regarding Edwin… he saved Abraham Lincoln's son Robert's life at a train station once. Robert had accidently been pressed against the train as it was stopped and was going to be pulled under it once it started up was grabbed by Edwin and pulled to safety.
