It’s a bullshit story. And you’re perpetuating a dangerous myth that the sex offender registry is full of aw-shucks-kids that just made a silly mistake - it isn’t.

Remember, what they are convicted of is often very different from what the original charges were. For instance, in this guys case they dropped the sexual assault charges and left kidnapping and offender registry as a requirement. Its quite a common tactic.

Yeah, it’s only even possible (due to the ways the laws are written) in CA, AZ and GA. And even in those states it is essentially an urban myth.

I don’t know about all states, but on the California Megan’s Law site it will absolutely tell you what crimes sex offenders were convicted for. I’m guessing 99% of men who claim they’re only on the sex offenders registry because of public urination are full of shit.
