I lived in and around DC off and on for fifteen years. It is a pretty great city. Good food, free museums, good nightlife, the kind of mashing of cultures that makes for any good American city.

This is the correct answer. Of the hundreds of fighting game slang terms introduced to the world by Yipes (brotha has his own freestyle language), “scoop(s)” is probably the most commonly used in the FGC.
Terrific article about an important subject. 1,000 more like this please.
No need for apologies... that’s what George is there for.
Oh I don’t think it’s conspiratorial to think that Ghostbusters’ marketing attempted to use the stupid backlash against the casting as a rallying cry after the trailer came out and everyone realized it was going to be awful (unrelated to the casting). They were pretty obvious and hamfisted about it.
You’ve clearly been living under a rock the last few years. Everything now is either brilliant social commentary or racist/sexist/etc. Even big, dumb Hollywood blockbusters. There is no nuance. There is no context. Nothing is allowed to be just fun.
People who played Pac-Man in the arcades growing up are now in their 40s and 50s (released in 1980). It’s not going to be long before things like this are going to be smack dab in the middle of the slot granny demographic.

Google “Phantasy Star IV retail price” and the first result is “Why did Phantasy Star IV cost $99.99?”. If Wikipedia and Google aren’t good enough for you, don’t know what to tell you.
The retail price of Phantasy Star IV is on its Wiki page if you don’t believe me. I also worked in games retail when the game came out soooo yeah. Plus I was stupid enough to buy it at that price.
The “collectors” aspect of video gaming is spinning out of control. The prices of physical games from the NES - Dreamcast era are artificially and GROSSLY inflated by a combination of eBay, pawn shops, buffoonish Youtubers braying about “hidden gems” and private collectors. I just feel bad for the people paying…
If your mother did, she got it on sale. The game retailed for $80 at launch. As did Chrono Trigger and many other 3rd party SNES games. Phantasy Star IV for Genesis was actually $100 retail.
Not sure where you live but the mall arcades in my area died off about 15 years ago. Lucky these days to find a Dave & Buster’s (ugh).
Article should be renamed “It sucks to be a small market/fly-over country team”. Unless you live in a major metropolitan city or a city with great beaches/nightlife, you’re always going to play second fiddle during the free agency period. Your only path to building a contender is going the Golden State route and…
We are truly on the darkest timeline. Not only are the Sonic games terrible but now Sega has actually subjugated itself to the horrifying abomination that is Sonic fandom.
