so... the A/C was very far from "perfect shape and still running". They did examine the bird and it had major structural damage. Warped ribs and spars, popped rivets, over-sped the flaps, et al. There's a huge difference between exceeding the maximum rated speed of a car and over-speeding & over-g'ing an aircraft. But…
