Great news that a new version of a good car is coming here. Recent news of build quality issues makes me less sure I want to lean into Hyundai. 

I work with a lot of software engineers and most of them bought Tesla’s and the inane promise of FSD. In the last month I’ve heard several of them saying they want to dump their Tesla’s because of what Elon now represents.

I’m 6'4", but don't have a linemen body. I'm 215, but put another 50 lbs on me and I doubt I'd like driving my Mazda 3 still.

I biked all over the East Side of Providence as a grad student. Didn’t have a car for two years. Quiet, leafy lined streets and lots of stop signs meant most traffic was going slow. I saw a local business got a Rivian, and have seen a couple in Rhode Island. Like you I haven’t seen the new Hummer. But I have seen a couple of the Polestar BEVs.

I see a lot of the Mach-es around me in suburban Boston. Lots of EVs generally. Though I saw my first F150 lightning yesterday. It was hard to tell it was the BEV, but the light bar gave it away.

I doubt there's much value in buying it out. I would guess a bankrupt Tesla might be taken over by China and relaunched as the first global Chinese brand. With their own EV pipelines building, what value would Tesla really add? 

Yes. But most manufacturers deleted green ages ago.

Agreed, but you could see making an exception for automakers committed to building and sourcing under the rules. VW started making ID.4s in TN a while ago, but all the German made ID.4s lost their credit overnight when the bill was signed. Same story for the Korean automakers. Doesn't hurt that Ford already makes arguably the most popular ICE truck for several years running. The new hotness is built on decades of brand recognition too. 

To be a global services firm you need R&D, marketing, legal, customer service, finance, and on and on and on. 

My bet is they'll never make it that way. Elon will hand wave something about regulators are so mean, so now here's a Honda Ridgeline with batteries.
