The distinction is simple. Anderson Cooper is gay. He also makes over 10 mil a year and holds an influential position in society. He is not ordinary, and thus needs very little help compared to a poor or middle class minority, lgbt, etc...
The issue is with the amount. 350k income in a year puts you in the top 1% of wage earners. That’s what someone is spending to have a dinner at a fundraiser.
