Simple, just be really poor and deeply in debt like me, with a credit score resembling a very base model Euro-spec 5 series. I couldn’t hoard cars even if I wanted to, because a “cheap” $500 car is the difference between me paying my rent and not.

That’s how you know the air-cooled 911 market is a mess, when $12k for this is considered a “good deal.” I’d rather buy a running driving 944 for less money.
Yeah it’s all BMW in the L322 generation, so I didn’t have to buy a single new tool to work on it, haha. Some of my BMW-specific scan tools work with it too, funnily enough.
I haven’t spent much actually— I redid some of the cooling system, resealed the intake manifold, and otherwise just oil changes. So maybe a few hundred dollars in parts and the labor I did myself since I’m a BMW technician.
I’ve always found Mini’s extreme attempts at Britishness to be downright laughable, considering their German ownership and German parts. The only British thing about them is that they’re bolted together in England... my Range Rover was put together in Solihull but there’s not a single British part on it, every part…
Yeah that’s a big part of it. It’s regularly 105º - 110º in the summers here, usually for months at a time. The asphalt temps are probably even hotter, and combined with the generous speed limits of 45-65 everywhere (aka 60-90 in reality), that probably roasts em.
Come to Arizona, where brand new tires look dry rotted after only 2-3 years.
- By keeping my house at like 80º in Arizona, which seems to be an anomaly amongst all the people here that keep their homes at 64º year-round. My electric bills rarely surpass $100/month so that’s nice.
I wonder how much of this is due to the ever-increasing amount of lifted trucks and SUV’s on the road... modern trucks and SUV’s are bigger and heavier than ever, and thanks to turbo technology they’re not slow either, which makes for a fairly deadly combo when in the hands of a careless idiot. Two cars crashing into…
I’m happy that you haven’t experienced it, but I’ve certainly heard of my fair share of terrible stories at car shows here in Arizona. I prefer to keep it about cars as well, because that’s what I’m there for!
“Yet in nearly every circle of car boomers I encounter, especially ones that can’t comprehend how a car even functions, will bloviate about how fast these cars were usually with some bullshit story about how they borderline raped chicks in the back seat of something like that back in the day.”
I have no issue with Singers themselves, because I do admire the craftsmanship and detail that goes into these builds. What I do take issue with is the fact that 75 people dropped $2 million casually, and the fact that seven-figure hypercars are selling in decent numbers. To me, that says there are far too many rich…
As I say to people, you haven’t lived if you haven’t been bumper to bumper while doing 90mph... feels like being in Nascar, but with slightly more accidents!
Man, that sketch is still one of my favorites.
No police presence? I could use some of that here in Arizona, where there are cops at every corner, looking to start shit 24/7.
Y’all need to go to Russia at some point. The dash cam videos barely scratch the surface of the daily insanity that happens when you mash together awful rusty Soviet cars with brand new Bentleys and BMW’s driven by people with inexplicable money. Combine that with awful roads and questionable signage and you’ve got a…
Look, if you’re a Hollywood celebrity that lives in a comfortable mansion and gets driven around in a limo/luxury car to other comfortable places like restaurants, you really can go without showering every day, without smelling bad. Dry shampoo and deodorant go a long way if you’re not getting gross. Now if a…
