Funny how when the roads are all open and clear I’m daily driving a car that tops out at like 125mph... I kinda miss having a car that could do 165 easily. But then again, having less speeding tickets is nice too.

The most interesting car in my neighborhood when I was a kid in the 90's was a red C4 Corvette... I always thought it looked cool, and loved the weird placement of the gas filler door. Otherwise my neighborhood was a depressing mix of 90's GM garbage (there were at least 5 different Chevy Luminas!) and the usual…
In your case it’s totally justifiable to want to replace it, since it’s actively rusting away. But in states like Arizona and California, perfectly good cars are getting junked and traded in for no good reason...
I guess in this context, I’m referring to how a lot of car buyers these days feel like they *need* to have the fancy gadgets and luxury car levels of comfort in every car. That’s what drives up the price on all these trucks and SUV’s, and creates an environment where 96 month loans are a thing.
That’s the consequence of people shopping for a monthly payment without thinking about the total price, depreciation, and near-certainty of being immediately underwater on the loan.
I mean, uncut is always the best way.
Who woulda thunk that enlarging the 6-series and making it more expensive without giving it anything distinctive would be a flop? Consider me surprised. /s
It’s been a great time for driving... lots of empty roads to blast around on, and cops don’t seem to care at all. I (accidentally) passed a cop at an intersection doing 75 in a 40 on a otherwise empty road and absolutely nothing happened.
Kind of a terrible way to use a Z3 M-Roadster... Also, it’s an S52 engine. The S50 was only used in the 1995 M3 (in the US, at least).
I mean, if you can afford a Valkyrie, you can probably afford the maintenance. A hot V turbo engine isn’t exactly cheap to maintain either though, I’ve worked on quite a few BMW hot V turbos, and the labor hours on most things are pretty crazy— a simple valve cover gasket is 15.4 hours per side.
Eh, I think the NA V12 that makes 1000hp and revs to like 11,000rpm is way cooler. Hot V turbo engines are boring. Sure, they make loads of power and pass some arbitrary emissions requirements, but they’re not exciting at all.
I took it a step further when I worked remotely at a former job, I would often fly to buy cars during work hours... planes have reasonably good wi-fi so I could keep up the façade, and I had my work chat app on my phone so I was always on top of any requests. My favorite moment was when I was driving down some…
Hey, at least you have manuals available. Here in the US, all E34 tourings were auto only, and you only have the 525it and 530it to choose from. 530it’s are incredibly rare, so most are 525it’s. The last 525it that I owned was manual swapped by a previous owner which was really nice. The current 530it still needs a…
E34 touring is honestly the best way to go. It’s modern enough to have reliable fuel injection, ABS, and good highway manners, but oldschool enough to not need a computer to work on it. They’re super reliable, especially in 525i form with the M50 straight 6. Nothing to really break on em, and no real engineering…
And yet the cheapest I see gas here in the part of Phoenix I live in is $2.71 for 87, this is bullshit. I dunno why gas got so expensive here, it used to be so cheap back in the day. Must be all the Californians moving here.
Oh man, so many cars. My current E34 530it has a hood and passenger front door from one car, a nose panel from another car, each bumper is from a different car, a fender from another car, seats from another car, and I’m currently collecting a black interior for it from two separate cars in the junkyard. That being…
I’ll keep supporting the restaurant industry no matter what... aka I hate cooking and will look for any excuse to eat out, despite how much money I burn on it. Coronavirus ain’t gonna stop me from getting my burgers in. I don’t love delivery either, because I live far from everything and the food is always cold and…
I mean if you wanna get technical, they were computerized as soon as they got electronic fuel injection. But the “computers” in that era were fairly simple and a lot of them still work quite well even 30-40 years later. Plus those old computers are simple to repair if things do ever go wrong. I’ve owned a dozen E39's…
I mean, I agree on the drifting thing, it’s kinda silly to me as well. It was more so an example as to what can be considered a “sport” whether you or I like it. I think one thing we can agree upon is that if calling drifting or sideshows a “sport” allows them to be done in a safe manner and not on public streets,…
Neither the Hellcat engine nor the Ecoboost use a timing belt though? They both use timing chains.
