I wouldn't pan it to that extreme. I like to see what totally-dramatic performers do in the SNL format, "playing against type." Sometimes the more ridiculous the sketch humor, the better (I'm thinking way-back w/ Patrick Stewart and the cake store). This wasn't a great episode, but it had some good material.
