Joanna would kick Lucia Rijker’s head clean the fuck off.

That last fight against Andrade was so impressive. That takes so much discipline to stick to that game plan for 5 rounds and not take any damage from such a tough opponent. She has to be in that discussion about best pound for pound fighters, male or female.

It boggles the mind how people try to discredit her, though. People insisted her chin was problematic and that Andrade was going to put her away in short order.

>>no power

thanks for the write up, and for the sincere appreciation of women’s sports. Not afraid to say that even the thought of watching rhonda wreck a fighters elbow is enough to make me not watch the sport. its really heart warming that you’ve clearly spent some time critiquing her skills and thanks for all the commentators

I never understood why so many thought Gadelha won that fight. She basically just pinned her and laid down on top of Joanna or clinched for half the fight trying to catch her breath, but not doing much damage. Shes strong as fuck but doesn’t have the proper conditioning to outlast JJ

Joanna Violence is the best. I’d love to see her take on Shevchenko at 125 and avenge the amateur losses and I’d also love to see her continue grinding people at 115 into a fine paste in perpetuity.

RE Andrade, I think it’s helpful to draw a distinction between a pressure fighter - think Rafael dos Anjos or Conor McGregor, someone who excels at methodically working the opponent back to a barrier, in this case the fence - and a swarmer (think Nick Diaz or John Lineker) who has a quick trigger and unloads a hefty

Okay, now I understood your argument better and completely agree. I mean if you look at Joanna’s last four fights, with she herself claiming that that Karolina performance was her weakest so far due to the change in camps, her core approach in each fight has been drastically different. It is scary how she is able to

I don’t really disagree with any of that, but to your point, I think it’s important to draw a distinction between tactical adjustment and strategic adjustment. Lots of fighters can adjust their game tactically either through game planning or on the fly as the fight goes on, which Jedrzejczyk happens to do

I didn’t realize it when first watching that fight, but Joanna threw a damn question mark kick as a counter. I’m still not certain if you can do that despite having just seen someone do it. That woman is incredible and great to see her getting respect in pieces like this.

To be honest, I used to agree with that argument that Gadelha would win the three round fight most of the time, even if I gave the first fight to JCJ, but I don’t know anymore after the version of JCJ we saw last Saturday. Especially since Gadelha didn’t really show any signs of development in that Casey fight.

I haven’t kept up much with MMA in a number of years, but I went out with a diehard MMA fan to watch the Rousey/Holm fight. During the undercard, he pointed out Jedrzejczyk to me and said “She’s a beast. You need to start watching her.”

I’ve always thought JJ won that first fight, from the moment I saw it live to every time I’ve watched it since, but it was a close fight. I think there’s a lot to the idea that different fighters are built for different-length bouts: JJ is made for five-rounders, and Gadelha for three.

frankie edgar is doomed to be the second-best 145er, however.

Sure have. If you want to compare the general competitive scene of 90s women’s boxing and kickboxing to women’s MMA in 2017, go ahead - 90s women’s boxing and kickboxing don’t come out favorably.

She’s not just the greatest female fighter in the UFC, she’s the greatest female fighter in any combat sport, and I think perhaps the single most dominant fight in any sport today.

It was slightly unfair to see her fight Penne since her nose gave Jędrzejczyk an extra reach advantage

The Moon’s gravity is not strong enough to hold any significant atmosphere. Even Mars has trouble keeping one (its atmosphere is 1000x less dense than ours).
