You’re completly right. It’s like if you tried watching episodes 4-6 without seeing episodes 1-3 first. Darth Vader being Luke Skywalkers father means anything unless you know who Anakin Skywalker was.

You’re right “anybody can be a hero” was definitly not one of the themes of the first star wars movie.

Or making Luke all knowing and all powerful would have just made for a boring story. It would have just been like that Darth Vader scene at the end of Rogue One. Cool action but ultimately forgettable because it has zero emotional weight to it.

I always forget there was a Rhodey before Don Cheadle. I also have yet to watch Batman v Superman & Justice League (Justice League I eventually will). So I’m personally totally ok with this.

Abrams isn’t the best and has his flaws (though personally I’m a big fan, but I understand the criticism) but he is in a much higher league than Treverrow. I mean just compare the character work from Force Awakens and Jurrasic World.
