Maybe they don’t verbally ask, but they certainly make it obvious it’s what they want. The majority of info under any given stream is nothing but info on how to donate, buy merch, an Amazon wishlist and a list of top contributers. If you weren’t trying to get people to donate you wouldn’t give them an incentive by

most streamers never ask people for donations. They welcome them but never state “hey donate money to me””

I’ve thought about this a lot as major streamers thank a kid for their donation while in the same breath talk about the new Tesla they bought. It’s their money, they can do what they want with it but it’s a bit unsettling

I mean let’s call the kettle black streamers you guys get mega ad revenue from companies and yet you’ll still peddle for donations from fans who think they are helping support you when it really is just padding your bottom line.

But ninja Gaiden was a precursor and nioh was building upon the core idea. Souls is what brought life back to the genre of extremely hard action rpgs and thsts why we call the whole genre "souls like" now

Souls like, for lack of better term, is a genre now. It doesn’t nessecarily mean it’s exactly like dark souls but within the genre of incredibly hard, slow paced action rpgs.

I joked with some other people that I hope the last fight isn’t the Buddha ‘cause that’d be disappointing.

It’s like when two conventions are scheduled at the same time, so you’ve got the Masquerade LARPers and the Organization of Cardiovascular Surgeons hanging out in the lobby together.  Delightful.

I think the point he was making was no one really cares about streaming industry, especially when they just talk to chat and don’t even play games. They are just shoving these stories down our throats whether we want it or not. Streamer drama should be on jezebel or some other gossip site, not Kotaku.

I dunno, the combat looks pretty similar to other “Souls-like” games from the last couple years, and specifically similar to Jedi Fallen Order to me. It’s definitely different from Dark Souls III, but that’s a four and a half year old game.

She's not even thst attractive imo. She gives me weird uncanny vellay vibes with those eyes.

It’s pretty obvious that the inspiration comes directly from that franchise, though.

The line about how long they’ll take to finish developing it is a jokey reference to Journey to the West; there’s a bit where the Monkey King is buried under a mountain for five hundred years.

This is what he writes about i’m sure he’s fine

They use Bing Maps, actually, because Microsoft.

As far as I know the data isn't taken from Google maps.  It's taken from bing's mapping data, because it's a Microsoft backed project, so unless bing's street view of your city had that same visual glitch it would not affect the rendering of your city.

No offense to Nathan, he has an interest in the whole streamer cult-of-personality and I’m sure a number of readers do, too. That said, if this is what Kotaku s becoming, I think I’m gonna go ahead and bounce.

Kotaku has lost a lot of the writers who would do more “real journalism.” I don’t mean that to demean blogging or the writers here now, just that Jason, Heather, Cecelia, Gita, and others would often post stories with sources that did deep dives into a topic. Journalism, not blogging.

You said it a bit more directly than I would, but I agree wholeheartedly. Articles on this site are getting worse by the day. Why are we discussing internet-celebs like some chatty gossip magazine?
