Bringing Out the Dead is pretty great, though it ends kind of abruptly. I wouldn't put it in the same league as Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, The Wolf of Wall Street, Casino, The King of Comedy, The Age of Innocence, or Mean Streets, but I'd definitely put it up there with some of Scorsese's lesser known gems…

Scorsese would've definitely been able to pull it off. I have yet to see the play, so I have no judging point, but I loved the film. I thought it was very powerful.
