I see a lot of tiny cars on this list, but I believe a small engine in a small car can still be just fine. Trouble starts and fear sets in when you get large cars or vans with tiny engines.

There have already been ton of replies, so I expect I'll be lost in the noise, but I'd like to nominate 3 cars (and I've owned or driven all of them)

'68 VW Beetle autostick (scary as hell, couldn't do 50)
'78 VW Bus with 3sp automatic
'81 VW Westfalia. 67hp in a 5000lb+ vehicle. it was REALLY SLOW.

NP- but only because it's worth at least that in parts. I'd love to have that TDI for any number of projects.

Perhaps there is even something that could be done with that poor 'Vette body... ;)

If anybody asks what a supercharged straight-8 sounds like, here's the answer. Like nothing else.

Basically, a Citroën SM is takes all the things that were great and terrible about the Citroën DS and the Maserati Bora/Khamsin and wraps them in one car.

And the other way to avoid these problems? A way to drive around worry-free in a fun, enjoyable, high-end sports car without attracting too much attention, or spending too much on maintenance, or scraping your bumper on every single driveway? A way you can use your car as more than just a toy, a way you can park it on

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that there is a girl writing for Jalopnik! <3

There is hope for my daughter yet!

(Also... great article on a fun and very unusual little car.)

Flip those headers over and go buy bigger brakes. :)

It would be a quick, painful, and glorious death.

Only if you have a sonic screwdriver.

Seconded. However, it has to be a Westy.

Holy hell...

Go 944 style. Mount the transaxle, clutch, and flywheel in back, engine in front, connect with a CF driveshaft, and move the bits around until you hit 50/50 magic.

Wouldn't be half bad in an Audi R8 either... :)

Gotta do it 944 style and move the gearbox to the back. Connect the two with a carbon fiber driveshaft and you're (really) off to the races.

That's a very good answer.

(although a bit too normal.)

Turn the headers around and put it in the back of a '89 VW Westfalia. :)

That would surprise a few people.

I'm completely aware... it just didn't support my point so I omitted it. ;)

As a Naval Aviator, I am simultaneously insulted and amused.
