Yeah, it's an elective and it's pretty basic. I don't get the impression it covered much historical ground. Hermione took it to understand the muggle world from the wizarding perspective, but I don't think she learned anything new about muggle history.

Not to nit pick but there is a Muggle Studies class that they talk about but none of the main characters ever attend. Guessing it's an elective.

All of this leads to the startling revelation that the griffin isn't the only thing at Hogwarts nicknamed "Buckbeak."
