As someone with loved ones in Sierra Leone and as someone who knows the recent history of Sierra Leone...i DO find this insensitive.

Cannibalism as a joke? Really? During Sierra Leone's recent civil war, people (civilians...often even children) were forced at gunpoint by rebel soldiers to murder their families. They

Which is just another reason that we should be paying attention to the conditions in Sierra Leone and other West African countries YEAR ROUND and not just when there is an outbreak.

Its really difficult to wash your hands if you are living in rural Sierra Leone.

What about "Are you a decent human being that is concerned even if this doesnt affect you?"

Or "Do you have family members and loved ones living in the region?"

Or do I still need to STFU?

...People in West Africa who have no running water.

My family lives in Sierra Leone. Some of them live in a village. To get water, you have to walk across town to the pump (which may or not be working) with a bucket and pump a bucket of water. Then you haul the bucket of water back to where you would be washing.

Cannibalism. If you knew anything about Sierra Leones history you would know that this shit is not at all ok to joke about.

Yup. I get gallows humor. But we should make fun of people UP HIGHER on the social ladder of privilege....not laugh DOWN. Make fun of Donald Trump. Dont make fun of people dying of an awful disease.

Not to mention that forced cannibalism is part of the recent history of Sierra Leone. During the decade long civil war

Not to mention that forced cannibalism is part of the recent history of Sierra Leone. During the decade long civil war that was only just over in 2002, rebel soldiers and sometimes government troops forced people (sometimes children) to murder their families at gun point. They were then forced to cannibalize their

Agreed completely. Gallows humor has its place but we need to make fun of the right things. Laugh at Trumps ridiculous response. Dont joke about cannibalizing dead corpses. Those are real people. Who are being grieved by their families.

Ok I get gallows humor and everything but this was a little much. For example, in Sierra Leone during their recent and awful civil war, FORCED CANNIBALISM WAS A THING! DONE TO INNOCENT CIVILIANS! So to joke about that...cannibalism AND a deadly infection killing hundreds....is really not funny. Its not only

Not to mention ableist.

I had the same reaction. What the fuck was that about?

Ok Im not trying to be ridiculous but between this article ("looks better than us"??) and the article the other day about the ballerina's legs being better than mine (har har har we need to do more squats), I'm starting to feel kind of triggered. And disappointed.

I feel kind of body shamed and maybe I'm being

I used to think "Fat Talk" was the problem. Now I think that thinking Fat=Bad is the problem. That thinking that Fat=shameful is the problem. Some people are fat. Some people are thin. Thats ok. The problem is when we try to attach negative things to "fat". So many people think fat = lazy, fat = ugly, fat = bad. But

No Alice Walker? No Toni Morrison?

"Fairest of them all". I DIE!

Esa negra tenia tumbao!

Omg that was the same reason that I took my husband's last name too!

If only my mother had kept her maiden name and passed it onto me...then I would've kept that. Because that part of the family is where I find my identity. But noooooooo.

Totally understandable. My sister worked at Maurice's at the time and was able to look in their database and order in these clearance shoes in everyones size. So it was really nice.
