Most PG-13 rated blockbuster movies and below can't stop pumping out merch. That said, I haven't seen any merch for the new Jurassic World movie either really.
Wait, they count the full elevated ticket sale price of the marathon screenings in the total gross for TFA? Doesn't seem fair.
Anything that garners, like you say, a rabid cultural attachment, or offers something like a very enjoyably intense experience, with pacing and/or visuals. Potentially all of those.

The put it back on at the IMAX recently and I think there might be another cinema round this year.
Everyone and their mother has seen Titanic and most people could describe to you in great detail at least 3 iconic scenes as well as name the two lead actors and talk you through the whole plot in general. Not to mention both lead actors going on to become household names and star in movies for years to come.

Thank you for a fantastic list full of fantastic movies, and so many I'm adding to my 'must see' list for the beginning of 2016 now. But also can I just say how wonderfully written this list is. I do find myself guilty of a bit of article skimming, but I had to read every word of this, it was superb!

Well considering they voted it movie of the year, I'd say no. The second paragraph of this article says its not included because (like Inside Out) all the best spots were out last year, not this.
All the Fury Road trailers were out last year save one, so that's why it's not on the list (second paragraph of the article).
But yeah, the Fury Road trailers are a thing of balletic beauty. Yes, especially the "Dies Irae" one. They took me from being mildly interested because of the casting to 'I can not wait to see…
