this is true. on android, most of them run scans every x amount of time, but they are all running all the time in the background (which does eat up memory - however, android is built for that...) and using battery.
for me, it just isn't worth it anymore. i get a new phone so often that by the time i drop my current phone, it's almost time to upgrade already.

right. well, if you can get dd-wrt on one of your devices, it should work (i say should, because i don't have any airplay devices to test this on; i do know, for instance, my android phone, when on either wireless network, can connect to my media server (over DLNA) without any port forwarding, or anything like that.
