In almost all cases you can hit F3 and type in the name of the files you were looking for if you happen to know them. It works in all the most common software like Outlook, IE, Chrome, Firefox etc...

what i've been recommending to my friends is to get a laptop with all the features they want, at the price they want, but to order an SSD from Newegg (or whereever) seperately so you can ditch the slow as craaaaaaaaaap notebook drive.
