Right, like why? Why would they waste the tremendous effort in the most liberal state in America? But people are still saying though, google it!

Hush with your logic.

I’ve seen some nasty comments on HuffPo but I didn’t read the comments on the NPR peice thankful. Ironically, i volunteer twice a year during the NPR pledge drive at our local station. The majority of the calls I take aren’t from our more urban city that we’re located in, they’re front tiny cities and towns all up in

Quarter given? You monumentally worthless fucking stain on humanity. People are hurting, people have died. But you want to talk shit because people didn’t vote the way you like?

A fire like this is devastating for any community, but Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are HUGE in terms of regional tourism, I really can’t overstate that enough. My family visited often when I was a kid, and as an adult it’s the funnest thing to get a load of friends to chip in $100 and rent a baller six-bedroom cabin

Growing up were I do, there are two well-worn vacation routes: half day drive down to the beach or a half day drive up to Gatlinburg, so I have memories of the place as far back as I can think. It’s a goofy, fun, hokey hillbilly tourist trap of a place, but it’s beautiful and the people couldn’t be nicer.

Gatlinburg isn’t that big, losing this many buildings hurts. The whole area runs on tourism, and a bad season after these fires could really hurt. I’m sure there will be money coming in, the rebuilding will be a good investment opportunity, but I hope they keep Gatlinburg as Gatlinburg. Don’t let it become a tourist

I’ve been glued to it for the past few days. I live in Atlanta and the smoke from those fires has made it’s way all the way down there, lingering for the past month. It was REALLY noticeable last night, it was super hazy but you could also smell it. My pal’s sister lives in Gatlinburg and some people COULDN’T

Jezebel hasn’t been great at covering non-election related news in the past few months. I live in the northeast and the TN fire topped my local news this morning as well as the Today Show (I have TV on as I get ready for work). My Google News feed was also headlining it this morning.

Yes! That area is extremely important economically to the region, and is very populated.

We’re hoping to go back in the spring!

thanks for sharing this, I haven’t heard a word about it/seen it on any of my feeds.

Thank you. The house isn’t in jeopardy for now, but they are packed and ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice. It’s hard because his brother is entering end stage AIDS and has numerous health issues right now.

We’re only newsworthy down here when some redneck does something racist, come on now, you know that!

I’m dealing with this this morning.

It’s an uplifting name. She’ll float above all the other children. When others react to her unusual name, she’ll remain inert.

you’ve obviously never accompanied me to the beauty aisle in any drug store.

Racism is not a mental illness, nor is mental illness an excuse for racism.
